Christian Formation/Discipleship Classes

Christian Formation/Discipleship Classes: Right before the Ascension of our Lord, Jesus gave his Apostles a commandment to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.” This is what we call the “Great Commission.” Notice, Jesus did not say go and make converts or pew polishers or church attendees, rather he told them to make more Christian disciples like themselves.
My desire is for every parishioner of St. John’s to become a fully committed disciple of Jesus Christ. A disciple is a learner who models his or her life after the teacher. So, as Christian disciples we are called to learn from Christ (the teachings He gave to His Church) and to model our lives after Him. In order to do this, we must be open and willing to continually have our minds transformed and renewed by the teachings of Christ’s Church.
If you would like to grow deeper in your understanding of the Historical Christian Faith of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, and to become a more deeply committed disciple of Jesus Christ, then I invite you to join me for Christian Formation/Discipleship classes at St. John’s.
The classes will be divided into 4 main categories: (1) Understanding the Faith (Information); (2) Believing the Faith (Formation); (3) Practicing the Faith (Transformation); (4) Living the Faith (Activation). Through our study, we will discuss who God is, His plan and purpose for humanity, salvation, the Church, Holy Scripture, the Sacraments, Prayer and everything else that a well-informed and grounded Christian Disciple ought to know and understand.
These classes are suggested for those who are new to the parish, renewing their life in Christ, serving as leaders in the parish, and/or those serving as teachers in the parish (you must be a good student before you can be a good teacher). These classes are required for anyone desiring to be Confirmed or Received into the Anglican Church. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board above the coffee bar in the parish hall. We will have a organizational meeting soon to discuss when is the best day and times for everyone to meet for these classes.
