Brief info

Deacon Helbert serves Saint John's Church and the Brownwood community in a multitude of ways.

The Rev. Dennis Helbert was ordained to the deaconate on April 16, 2005 by the Rt. Rev. Jack Leo Iker, Third Bishop of Fort Worth.

A native of Hale Center, Texas, he served as the parish deacon for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Brownwood for nine years. In 2014 he was assigned to St. John’s Church in Brownwood. Dn. Helbert graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1970 and then Dallas Anglican Seminary . 

He is married to Barbara whom he met in the drum section of the Longhorn Band. They are still Longhorn Alumi Band Members.  They were married at St. John’s Church on September 17, 1970. They have two sons and 5 grandchildren.

Deacon Helbert, a Doctor of Pharmacy and a Registered Pharmacist, owns Live Oak Pharmacy in Brownwood.  If he is not at the church he can usually be found at his pharmacy at 3707 Austin Avenue. He can be contacted at the pharmacy if someone needs help with a prescription or the loan of durable medical equipment. His duties within the parish include, but are not limited to, helping with the Order of St. Luke and the St. John’s Men’s Group.

In his free time, Deacon Dennis enjoys his horses, his longhorn cattle and gardening.
